Viewed by a myriad of Porsche enthusiasts as the βworst 911β, the 996 generation has been polarizing, to say the least. One thing is certain, regardless of how you feel about the controversial departure in Porsche styling, the 996 is still a true 911 at its core. This means the classic rear-engined shape and flat 6 remain, as does the signature 911 sound and visceral driving experience. Jomie, owner of this lively 2002 Carrera C2, is out to shape his ideal 911 experience and has fully embraced the quirkiness bestowed upon him by nicknaming his car the βWRST 911β (@wrst911).
With a host of engine and suspension upgrades, Jomie amplified the characteristics of a 911 that we have all fallen in love with. Precise steering, an exhaust note that is raw, yet sophisticated, and a road presence as aggressive as it is elegant. With plans to get out on track, this 996 has been modified with performance in mind from the Ohlins coilover system and CAE shifter, to a staggered set of our 18Γ9β and 18Γ11β SM-10 wheels engineered specifically for the 996 narrowbody chassis. Lightweight and durable 18β³ wheels in a chassis specific width and offset is one of the key modifications Porsche driving/track enthusiasts count on for maximizing performance, reducing rotational mass, and mitigating the seasonal tire budget.
The SM-10 features I-beam spokes which removes material in strategic places to reduce weight while maintaining strength, and knurled beading along the barrel to reduce unwanted tire slippage. The barrel of this 18β³ wheel design was also carefully engineered from scratch to clear some of the largest aftermarket brake kits on the market, as well as the factory Porsche carbon ceramics (PCCBs) found on select 996 & 997 models. For those like Jomie that enjoy the fine details, our Porsche wheels also accept the factory Porsche crest center caps.
